St. Mary's Catholic Church of Annapolis last week welcomed a new pastor, the Rev. John Kingsbury.
Kingsbury most recently served as rector of Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua, N.Y. The Boston native holds a Doctor of Ministry from Catholic University and is marking 25 years as a priest. He previously served as a priest at churches in New York state and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Kingsbury succeeds the Rev. Denis Sweeny, who will be the superior and prefect of students at the Redemptorist House of Formation, Holy Redeemer College, in Washington. A farewell Mass was held Sunday.
The church also announced two new associate pastors: the Rev. John Harrison, finishing a term as a church pastor in Seaford, Del., and the Rev. John Hamrogue, a former St. Mary's priest who has been based in Philadelphia.
Two St. Mary's priests have been reassigned: the Rev. John Tizio, to rector and pastor of St. Martin of Tours in Bethpage, N.Y., and the Rev. Jim McDonald, to rector and pastor at St. Gerard's Church in Lima, Ohio.
St. Margaret's Episcopal Church of Annapolis has awarded grants totaling $145,000 to agencies and programs benefiting children and families throughout Anne Arundel County.
The grants are from a bequest of long-time church members Edwin and Zoe Hall.
The Clay Street Learning Center will receive $10,000, and Arundel Habitat for Humanity will receive $17,000. Other local grants went to Domestic Violence Interfaith Coalition of Maryland; Food Link Inc., which supplies and runs Emergency Baby Pantry Care sites in Brooklyn Park, Glen Burnie Odenton, and Annapolis; and a private domestic violence shelter.
CASA of Annapolis received $7,628 to help train Court Appointed Special Advocates to represent neglected or abused children. Last year, more than 200 members of St. Margaret's contributed more than 2,000 hours to the program.
Other grant recipients included Mission of Peace Distribution Center in West Virginia, which was a project that began in Harvest of God Church in Edgewater 10 years ago.

Annual Joust:
St. Margaret's Episcopal Church will host its annual Joust and Craft Bazaar on July 9. The church is at the corner of Pleasant Plains and St. Margaret's roads. Activities begin at 10:30 a.m. and the opening ceremony for the joust tournament is 11 a.m. Admission is $5 per car or $2 for walk-ins older than age 6. 410-974-0200.
Brotherhood Breakfast:
Grace Baptist Church of Sunset Beach will sponsor its monthly Brotherhood Breakfast at 8:15 a.m. July 10 in the fellowship hall, 17 Somerset Road, Pasadena. Event is all-you-can-eat and open to all men and boys. 410-256-5616.
Summer orchestra:
The St. Paul's Lutheran Church Summer String Orchestra will rehearse from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at 308 Oak Manor Drive, Glen Burnie. Dress rehearsal is Aug. 18, and the concert is Aug. 20. There is a $35 fee. 410-437-3581.
