BankAnnapolis and CASA Come Out Swinging at Local Golf Tournament Fundraiser

ANNAPOLIS, MD – May 23, 2005 Over 150 golfers, BankAnnapolis volunteers, and sponsors turned out for the Fifth Annual “Tee Up for a Child” golf tournament at Bay Hills Golf Club, which raised more than $25,000 for Anne Arundel County CASA. CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates, is a non-profit organization that advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system through trained volunteers who work one-on-one with each child and speak in the child’s best interest.

Each year, the proceeds are greater than the year before, according to CASA Executive Director Nicki McCabe. “All the money raised from the tournament goes directly to helping children right here in our county, ensuring what every child deserves – to live in a safe, permanent home,” she said. “Ongoing support from the community’s local businesses and its residents make this event, and the day-to-day efforts of CASA, possible. We are thankful to the community and our primary sponsor--BankAnnapolis--and its wonderful employees for making the event an even bigger success for the third year in a row.”

BankAnnapolis was the lead sponsor of the event, contributing financial support, planning, coordination, and volunteers for the tournament. More than 40 bank employees and volunteers gave freely of their time, money, and energy in planning the tournament and staffing the event on May 18.

“CASA is making an important difference in the lives of local children,” said Robert Kendrick, Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer of BankAnnapolis, who headed the tournament’s planning committee again this year. “By sponsoring the event, BankAnnapolis is trying to help increase awareness of child welfare issues across the county so that we can raise more funds to assist more children,” he added.

According to CASA, nearly 13,000 children live in foster care or institutions in Maryland today as a result of abuse or neglect. With the support of the community, 90% of children served by CASA were placed in permanent homes last year. These children were either reunified with their parents, living with relatives or adopted. The remaining 10% were living in stable foster homes.

“Although we know we’re successful with the children we serve, there are still so many more out there that need CASA’s help. That’s why fundraisers like this are so important and why BankAnnapolis employees are so committed to donating their time and energy,” said Kendrick.

BankAnnapolis also supports CASA by selling CASA pins in its branch offices in Severna Park, Edgewater, Annapolis (Bestgate Road), Cape St. Claire and on Kent Island. More information on Anne Arundel County CASA is available at www.aacasa.org.

In addition to CASA of Anne Arundel County, BankAnnapolis supports multiple community organizations, such as Hospice of the Chesapeake, AmeriCares Tsunami Relief, Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis, Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC), YMCA of Central Anne Arundel County, YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Food Link, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
